MY CHRISTMAS MOVIES WATCH LIST

Cheesy Christmas movies are essential for me to catch the holiday spirit and I´m watching the same movies every year to provide me with fun jokes, cheesy love stories, beautiful music and plots I already know inside out. Not all of them are explicit Christmas movies but still quite moody and festive to me and perfect for a cosy night in. Today I want to share my Top 5 list to inspire your next Christmas themed movie night. As there still is a pandemic going on, I’m sure we’ll have a lot of those especially this December.

The Holiday

It’s the cheesy love story of the quite emotional columnist Iris and the tough trailer producer Amanda. It’s not their love story together unfortunately (that plot twist would spice it up though…maybe for the remake, I’ll mail Nancy Meyers) but both of them aren’t very lucky when it comes to love, so they decide to switch places over the holidays using a super sketchy website to rent apartments. But it works out for both of them and they fall in love. I have to say one of them gets Jude Law and the other one Jack Black, that doesn’t seem that fair to me, but love is love, I guess. This is no spoiler because it’s literally on the film poster.
It’s cheesy, cringy but festive and cute at the same time and I watch it every year. Don’t judge me.

home alone

One might say this movie is the story about a young boy defending his home from two burglars but in my opinion it should focus on the fact, that the parents forgot about one of their children and really didn’t try that hard to help him out. But as we all know Kevin does a great job staying home alone (the title ain’t no lie) and fighting two extraordinary bad burglars, who clearly made the wrong career choice. Still this movie is a well-deserved classic, charming, festive, funny and entertaining and I love it. There is a Part 2 but Part 1 is the winner for me.

BRidget jones’S Diary

Let me tell you about Bridget Jones: Long story short I love her and everything she does. This Movie is hands down one of my favourite movies of all time and I always laugh my heart out watching this iconic lady reeling through life. This Woman is such a relatable character on so many levels: She drinks, doesn’t really know how to act serious, is socially awkward and clumsy. But also, the other characters are extremely entertaining. This movie does count as a Christmas movie for me because holiday season is a big part of the plot. There are 3 Bridget Jones movies, personally I like the first one the best but the other two are funny and charming as well. You can’t go wrong with Bridget Jones.

DIsney’S a christmas Carol

This animated version of Dickens Christmas Carol is also on my list every year. It’s the famous story of a mean and cheap old man who just doesn’t get the idea of Christmas so three ghosts try to convince him to change his perspective on Christmas and life in general. I like the festive setting and animations. There is one detail I don’t like about this movie. It’s just a personal opinion but I quite hate little Timmy. Timmy is the little kid of the old Scrooges’ employee. He is terribly sick and close to death, BUT he’s so positive about it and such a show-off with his cough and tiny crutch. We get it you are sick. Don’t make it all about you and stop thanking god for literally everything remotely positive in your life. Your life sucks and that is ok! Anyway, watch the movie, it’s fun!

miracle on 34th Street

For me the 1994 Version of this classic Christmas story is a must see every December.
After the planned Santa Claus is too drunk to work at the parade (who can blame him, this seems like an awful stressful job) a new Santa comes around to save the day. He des the job extremely well and everybody loves him. But the strange thing about that man is his slight obsession with Christmas and his indications to be the real Santa Claus. If you are looking for a classic American Christmas movie with a cheesy plot, over the top decorations and an old man dressed as Santa this is the film for you!

Other Christmas Movie recommendations that didn`t make my Top 5

Polar express
Rudolph
The Santa Clause
Charly and the chocolate factory
Harry Potter

A little add on, because I don’t have enough enemies already:
I don’t like “Love actually” that much. I know this movie is super popular, but I don’t feel the need to watch it again. But if you haven’t seen the movie feel free to do so!

Here's to cosy movie nights and happy holidays!
